Case Study of
The Week
The Last Week of February
Imagine
providing home care for Mrs. William Graves , a 61-year-old grandmother who was
recently discharged from the hospital after having suffered a stroke. Mrs.
Graves has a long history of hypertension and you are to assess her blood
pressure and understanding of her medications. When you arrive, you find that
she lives with her 22-year-old daughter and three grandchildren who are of age
4 years, 3 years, and 1 year. During your visit, you observe that the older
children are scantily dressed in dirty clothing, feeding cheese curls to the
baby. The 3-year-old has multiple contusions on her arms and legs while the
4-year-old has a fairly large loop-mark welt on his anterior thigh. The baby,
in a soiled diaper, is clearly undernourished. The mother is at school while
her live-in boyfriend and father of the 1-year-old is asleep upstairs.
